EMPLOYMENT AND LABOR LAW

Members of the firm have experience in all aspects of labor and employment law, providing advice and counsel on a wide range of employment-related issues including labor/management disputes, discharge issues, pension and benefit claims, and employee discipline. The firm’s attorneys have represented employers before federal and state agencies, including the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Department of Labor.

On the state and local level, we handle matters before various human relations commissions, wage and hour boards, and other regulatory agencies. We have represented employers in various employment-related disputes, including federal civil rights law cases, Title VII and Section 1981 claims, Equal Pay Act cases, and cases involving the Americans with Disabilities Act. In advising clients with respect to these claims, L&L is able to draw upon the skills its members have developed in negotiating and litigating such matters.

In providing legal services in the employment context, L&L focuses primarily on assisting companies in taking a proactive position with respect to their employees. To that end, we help employers develop and implement preventative measures to avoid workplace claims, and we can provide on-site training on sexual harassment awareness, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other areas of concern for employers and employees. We also assist employers in creating a workplace environment that is conducive to business success. Our attorneys protect companies by drafting personnel manuals, employment practices, and operating procedures so that management can achieve its strategic objectives with minimal impact on its operations, while avoiding costly and disruptive litigation. We also assess employer’s current policies and practices to determine if any are discriminatory or legally insufficient. Our attorneys are also skilled at conducting investigations in areas including harassment, diversity, disability, and age.
