KIM KENDRICK

The Honorable Kim Kendrick, of Counsel with the law firm of Leftwich & Ludaway LLC, has spent more than 20 years engaged in the practice of law and in public service, including as an attorney in several federal agencies, among which are the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

In 2004, Ms. Kendrick joined President George W. Bush’s administration and worked for him at HUD as Senior Counsel to the Secretary. In that role she was responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on a variety of legal and non-legal matters, including issues related to the Government Sponsored Enterprises, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, complex procurement issues, and personnel and staffing matters. In 2005, she was nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as an Assistant Secretary for HUD, with responsibility for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity. As Assistant Secretary, Ms. Kendrick was charged with enforcing the federal Fair Housing laws, developing and implementing a $75 million budget, and supervising a nation-wide staff of approximately 600 employees.

In addition to her Federal sector experience, Ms. Kendrick previously served as General Counsel for the District of Columbia Housing Authority, where, in addition to her responsibility for all legal and regulatory affairs, including supervising all litigation, and employment and labor relations matters, was part of the senior executive team that brought that agency out of receivership and back to self-management. She also served as General Counsel for Covenant House Washington, a non-profit organization that houses, protects, and educates homeless and run-away youth.

Utilizing her public and private sector experience, Ms. Kendrick is now engaged in the general practice of law with an emphasis on Employment and labor law issues, including litigation, negotiating labor agreements, and investigating Equal Employment Opportunity claims/ complaints. In addition she is skilled in handling legal matters in the following areas: regulatory matters; governmental affairs; government contracts; corporate and general business transactions, real estate development; and general litigation.

Ms. Kendrick is a member of several organizations, including, the National Bar Association and the Greater Washington Area Chapter, Women Lawyer’s Division, National Bar Association (GWAC). She is also Secretary to the Board of Directors of Shelter House, Inc. Kim Kendrick is

the recipient of several awards, including the 2007 Anthony J. Celebrezze, Jr. Housing Advocate of the Year Award and the GWAC Foundation, Inc.’s 2006 Charlotte E. Ray Award. Kim, who resides in the District of Columbia, received her B.A. from Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine) and her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). She has a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
